Bowerham School Foundation
Registered Charity Number: 1209999

What do we do?

The Bowerham School Foundation has been established to help pupils of Bowerham Primary and Nursery School achieve their educational potential despite barriers of financial hardship.  It does this by using donations to fund the following activities, in order of priority:

  • Provide food to run the Bowerham Breakfast Club, helping this to remain a free to use resource to those pupils who need it;
  • Provide specific additional learning support materials and equipment to those for whom such items have been recommended but are unachievable within family resources;
  • Provide financial grants to subsidise school trips and clubs where otherwise pupils will be unable to attend;
  • By exception, make financial grants to aid a pupil’s learning environment more holistically, through assistance for a specific requirement.
Who decides how donations are spent?

The Charity is governed by a Board of Trustees drawn from the Governing Body.  Each term, the Board allocates funds for the next three terms to cover the predicted costs of the Breakfast Club, with the remainder available for grants.  Applications for grants are initiated by the School’s pastoral team following their routine engagements with families requesting assistance; these are considered for approval by at least two trustees.  Exceptional grants require the approval of the whole Board.  Any grants considered (whether approved or rejected) are briefed to the Board as a standing agenda item on the Governing Body’s termly meeting.  The Charity’s Annual Report will show income and expenditure, and report on how money has been used, and will be linked on this website once published.  The policy on grant making is included below.
How can I help?

The Bowerham School Foundation is entirely funded by donations.  We are hugely grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness of all those in our community who are able to support us by giving money, whether family members of pupils or local business owners.  You can donate with cash at the school office, or even better, electronically using the bank details below (please put your surname as the reference on the payment if you are completing a GiftAid declaration form for the donation).  We even accept cheques, for those who still use them!  If you would like to donate for a particular purpose, such as the previous pay-it-forward system for school trips, please speak to the office as this is absolutely still something you can do that will be honoured when fund allocations are made.

Can I Gift Aid my donation?

Yes!  We are registered as a charity with HMRC, so we can claim an additional 25p on every £1 donated to make your donation go even further.  In order to Gift Aid your donation, you must have paid at least the same amount of Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax as the amount that we will reclaim, and complete a Gift Aid declaration.  You can do this by completing a declaration form for a one-off donation Charity_GAD_Single_Donation  or a multiple donations form Charity_GAD_Multiple_Donations that will apply for any donations made over the next four years.  Completed forms must be sent to bowerham-school-foundation@outlook.com.  You should be aware that if you pay less Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax than the amount you Gift Aid in the same tax year, you are liable to repay the difference.

Protecting your personal information

The personal detail included in the GiftAid form will be held solely to meet the mandated requirements set out by HMRC.  This means that it will only be seen and used by the charity trustee responsible for completing the annual submission to reclaim the tax paid on the donation, via the charity email account.  This information will be held for 6 years after the financial year in which the donation is made, and will be stored within a restricted area of the school’s official IT system.

Who can I talk to if I have more questions?

If you have more questions about how the charity operates, what processes ensure things are done fairly and properly, or how you can help further, please speak to the School Office and they will arrange for one of the Trustees to get in contact.
